We are very excited to finally have a Refectory Red kitchen to show you. Isn’t it amazing how a colour can totally change the look of a kitchen. We particularly love the tongue and groove boarding in this kitchen, a feature which is very traditional when done properly. We use different width boards made of solid hardwood which are chamfered and given a bead, this gives a completely authentic look and adds so much texture and character to the space.

The dark granite worktops and the rich Refectory Red backboards along with the brass details create a space that is more than just a look, it is a feeling, one of warmth and security. It's crazy to think interiors can do this but they can, and this Dulwich kitchen was so cleverly designed and styled it really did create emotions. We love to see something unexpected and a little bit clever too, it teaches us that the limits of kitchen design are endless. Uns Hobbs (@uns.hobbs on Instagram) is the lady behind this kitchen and its final look, it is her second Shaker kitchen from deVOL and we are really taken with her clever choices.

For me, the most memorable feature was not only the tongue and groove but the Delft tiles and the plates on the chimney breast, so simple, so beautiful and full of restraint, which is always a lesson to learn. The collection of vintage pieces in this room was what made the kitchen feel unique and personal and that’s the trick, the cupboards are always the same but it's how you choose to use them and how you choose to dress them that makes your kitchen different from everyone else’s.
