The Cotes Shaker Utility Room

This bank of beautiful Shaker cupboards is our little utility display here at Cotes Mill. It's painted in deVOL's Pantry Blue with a Carrara marble worktop and an under-mounted copper sink. The room is completely fitted and features our tongue and groove backboards. The richness of the dark blue paintwork and the skirting gives it a very bespoke feel, even though it's made with our standard Shaker cupboards.

The design of this space is a little bit different to a kitchen, it's not just a mini kitchen with a sink under the window, it's different because it does a different job. People tend to need less space around their sink but want lots of worktop, so we tucked the sink in the corner, which instantly gives a more utilitarian feel, and creates lots of space to do laundry, potting up, flower arranging or washing the dog. The base cabinets are designed to be completely functional, a wide open cabinet suitable for stacking and storing, along with a sink cabinet and a base cabinet to keep household essentials nice and tidy. There is also a glazed counter top cupboard, a lovely way of displaying and keeping everything organised.
