The Bath Townhouse Kitchen
We are very excited to allow you a peek into the basement of this wonderful Bath townhouse, with its simple Classic deVOL kitchen. The room is beautifully calm, and the light is spectacular coming through the original wavy Georgian glass panes. There is a secretive beauty about basement rooms that you just don’t find anywhere else. Even in the centre of this bustling city, there is a sense of peace in these old houses with their thick honey-coloured stone walls and secrets.
Our design team worked alongside the fabulous Banjo Beale to create the simplest, most authentic kitchen for his clients. We are so impressed with how Banjo has meticulously preserved the original character of the room. The decision to leave the chippy woodwork, panelling, doors and cupboards in their original state was so right, it has saved the history and character of the house making it feel like a time capsule. Many people would have had an uncontrollable urge to strip and repaint everything, making it feel clean and new, but when you have so much stone and so many features in the room, it would be such a shame to start again.
Our Classic deVOL cupboards are designed for these kinds of rooms, the Georgian detailing and their sturdy simplicity feel right at home in a house like this. The cupboards are painted in our Printer’s Black shade and topped with bespoke copper worktops, these subdued and soft tones sit very comfortably alongside the old stone floors and fireplace. A little modernity and function were necessary, the Lacanche cooker, deVOL brass rails and deVOL Heirloom lighting give practicality but also make the room feel fresh and new and ready for a busy family to enjoy.
We are delighted to see our Heirloom wall lights looking so at home on these ancient walls, a confirmation of how our accessories are so perfectly designed to fit into these old buildings. When we opened our showroom in Bath, we hoped for opportunities to design and photograph kitchens like this, these houses are so right for our Classic furniture and the finished rooms always have a charm and elegance that is special to Bath.
