This kitchen was magnificent, even though the day was grey, the first thing that struck us as we entered was the light. An absolutely crucial part of any home is to have good light, it lifts everything, even people.

In a room like this, everything is so big and so grand, the proportions and scale of windows, doors, ceiling heights and details such as the cornice, are just so damn huge! And beautiful we might add!  So consequently, you have to be careful when furnishing and styling a room of this size that you go big.

Our customers and senior designer, Hannah, worked together on the layout and ended up with just one piece of deVOL Heirloom furniture. A Dairy Table that was three and a half meters long, it had a sink, a dishwasher, drawers, a breakfast bar and plenty of storage, yet to look at it, you would be forgiven for thinking it was a simple prep table. The customers told us they almost cried when they saw the design because it was just so right, so right for them and for the room. Big, dark, bold and so beautifully in keeping with the house.

The Aga sits beside a module and a standalone cooker, all in black and akin to a very large country house range cooker, isn’t it clever how colour can sometimes blur the edges. In this case, the cooking area appeared as a seamless run of grand proportions and not three individual cookers. The overmantel was found by the customers in the outhouses and renovated to appear as a chimney breast that had been there since the beginning. deVOL Cream Subway Tiles were again, just the right proportions and style. They give a simple and slightly utilitarian feel to the kitchen, which given its glamourous demeanour, was a lovely touch.

Isn’t it so often that the very easiest of choices make the biggest impact. For us, the big bright green leaves of the fiddle leaf fig plant by the window absolutely made this room.
