We’ve been awarded a second Design Guild Mark!

Just when we thought this week couldn’t get any better, last night we were awarded a prestigious Design Guild Mark for the second year running!! This time for our amazing new Bum Range, a beautiful collection of solid wooden stools and chairs that have been designed to support a healthy posture yet remain simple and visually stunning pieces of furniture. They’ve quickly become top of our customers’ wish lists and have been featured in all our favourite magazines, and so this is the most perfect cherry on an already Bake Off worthy cake.
This range has been really important for deVOL, it’s something that we really wanted to be able to offer our kitchen customers; a beautifully simple, comfy, stylish stool at a sensible price, designed and made here in England. It all started with a lump of clay, each day new team members sat on it until eventually we came up with the mould for the seat. That’s why it’s named the Bum Range, it is something that bodies – or more specifically bums – have formed.
The seat is then machined from a single section of oak, the shape of the seat pan is perfectly complemented by the natural figure of the timber. It’s a really beautiful thing to see, the skill and craftsmanship are apparent even at first glance. You can’t help but run your hand over the smooth curves and lift up the chair to admire the shape underneath, complete with our very own deVOL makers mark. Along with a little ergonomics and physics to determine the positioning of the legs and struts, we have ended up with the comfiest solid wooden stool that we’ve ever sat on…and the judges clearly agreed!
The Design Guild Mark is awarded to drive excellence and raise the profile of British design and innovation. It recognises the highest standards in the design of furniture and we are so honoured to be included in this year’s accolades. It’s something we’re really passionate about, we’re so proud to design and make all our furniture in England and to nurture other forms of design and timeless crafts at our Cotes Mill studios.
What an amazing achievement for Paul, Robin, Ben, Huw and Michael, the very special team here at deVOL who decided to tackle this age-old challenge. So firstly I just wanted to say a huge congratulations to them, it’s great to see all of your hard work has paid off. And secondly, thank you on behalf of everyone here at deVOL to the incredible judging panel and to all of the lovely people who came along to see us at Clerkenwell Design Week to try the range out for themselves, your response has been better than we could have ever hoped for!!
