This new deVOL design is called a ‘Task Light’ because we love practical things, but we also love beautiful things, quirky things, and exquisitely made things. The task light has comfortably fitted into all these categories.
Inspired by the kitchens of stately homes, The Heirloom Task Light is our first light specifically designed for high ceilings. We like to see it placed high up on the wall where it casts a wide pool of light over a big area of worksurface. We also love to see them in twos, perhaps on either side of large shuttered windows, creating balance and scale.
This elegant and somewhat unusual wall light has rather beautiful grand proportions and, due to its size, serves a slightly different purpose to a normal-sized wall light. It also features a handmade aged brass arm inspired by original Victorian gas light fittings, a simple turned oak pattress and the best bit, a handmade wide creamware shade. The finish is just delicious, the perfect shade of cream, and the glass-like glaze subtly crazes over time, producing an authentic and really charming timeworn look.
Whether big or small, wall lights are a great way of mixing up the feel of a room, they seem to create a different, softer kind of light and really give soul and atmosphere to wherever they are placed, we would always recommend using them in a kitchen. So, if you have high ceilings or simply just like something that casts plenty of light and has real character, the Heirloom Task Light is perfect.
