The moment we have all been waiting for!
26th January 2017
The beautiful Classic English furniture has arrived at St. John’s Square and the fitting has begun!!
I thought I’d give you a little picture update of what’s been going on, we’re so sooo close now.
So here’s what the showroom was looking like a couple of days ago…
We still can’t get over the pink, green and blue colour combination. This showroom is Helen’s design, she dreamt it up and now it’s coming to life right in front us all, it’s very cool and very inspiring to see. Helen just has that knack of getting things so spot on, every single time. How does she do it!?
I guess on first thought, combining these colours together, especially in a kitchen, might sound a little scary, but this space isn’t even finished yet and we are completely in love and totally convinced. These photos have already caused a bit of a stir on social media too, with designers and interior junkies from all over the world praising the unique, classic, authentic and original look. We only ever wanted to make this building beautiful and respect its history and location. We wanted to add furniture and accessories that look like they could always have been here, like they’re meant to be.
Yesterday morning a couple of our lovely fitters brought the first few big pieces of Classic English furniture from Cotes Mill to St. John’s Square. First up, a beautifully substantial base unit which runs all the way along the back wall of the showroom.
The cupboards are painted in our brand new colour ‘Clerkenwell Blue’ and finished with some new aged brass handles. I think this might be my new favourite combination.
And after all of the love we received on the photos of the big green tiles which Claire made for the sink area, we’re excited to tell you that they’re now available to order! They’re unique, they’re charming and they have the perfect gloss to them.
They are approximately 23.5cm (w) x 15.5cm (h) in size and will cost £25 per tile + P&P, we estimate about a 4-6 week lead time on orders. If you have any questions about these tiles, or would like to place an order, please email enquiries@devolkitchens.co.uk or call us on 01509 261000.
Next up, the honed black granite worktops with a round moulded edge. A little different to the usual square edge we tend to use in our kitchens, but we wanted something extra special for the showroom and we think this little addition of luxury works perfectly with the bespoke cupboards.
The fire was roaring all day long, keeping the fitters toasty warm.
And then the countertop cupboards started to go on! They are beautifully grand pieces of furniture, handmade from solid hardwood throughout.
We added these traditional brass vents onto the back of the countertop cupboards. They look so classic and provide perfect ventilation, especially as we’ve not gone for cut-outs on the front of the doors, these will keep air flowing around the cupboards nicely.
The furniture is very substantial, but it’s not fussy.
Seeing everything finally come together is the best.
Next up it was time to fit the doors…
Fitted with internal spice racks and classic brass hardware.
Shelving, a couple of mini drawers and a Carrara marble cold shelf.
There is something about Georgian furniture for kitchens that is just right, it’s the proportions and the simple detailing that we love so much and it’s these things that inspired our first range of bespoke, Classic English cupboards, it’s where it all began for deVOL.
Having a Classic English Kitchen by deVOL means you have beautiful pieces of furniture made to your specific sizes and requirements, painted in whatever colour you desire. Whatever style of house you have and whatever look you want, it can be designed to work perfectly for you with no compromises. The furniture style is always Georgian though, it just seems to work.
And then it was time for the final step…. adding the cornice to the top. Ahhh I just love these cupboards, they look so good and so right.
This showroom is going to be a little London paradise, filled with beautifully proportioned bespoke cupboards, handmade pieces from our Cotes Mill studio, oil paintings hanging from the walls, quirky palm trees and houseplants, antique chandeliers and kooky Majolica pottery.
There’s still lots to do before we open in about three weeks time but we cannot wait to welcome you into our new deVOL London showroom and townhouse.
