Sunshine and the coolest kitchen in Kew
27th November 2019
Last month Letty and I left the showroom behind for a day and ventured West to Kew. What a fun day it was, firstly going to this quaint part of London was such a treat, close enough to the city to feel you’re here but far enough to escape the craziness, there’s row upon row of the prettiest houses, delightful shops and individual little restaurants and cafes and bars and a real neighbourhood feel. The kind of place I’d like to live when I grow up!!! And secondly, of course, being welcomed into this home, a Victorian property renovated to total perfection… we were so pleased this family chose to have a deVOL Kitchen.
My favourite shot of the day, sunshine, beautiful cupboards and Albus, the most handsome Whippet.Letty and I don’t tend to be the ones going out on these photoshoots, we have the best team already so it was quite a daunting task to create an image or two with even a teeny bit of the beauty and style that Helen and Tim pull off every single time. But we gave it a good old go!! and we really hope you like seeing these new photos. We’ve shared a couple on our Instagram page but have kept the rest especially for this blog post…
No island is complete without a few stools to perch on, this family chose Helen’s Stool with its little hint of brass and simple design. Now we’re certainly not pros… who knew even getting a tripod to stand up straight could be so tricky!? But we were quite pleased with the few shots we came out with and it certainly proves that if you invest in beautifully made, professionally installed cupboards then your kitchen will look great no matter what.
How cool is this exposed brick wall, painted in a wash of white, it looks perfectly imperfect. You can see from the pictures that this family have style and a beautiful home, which made our job so much easier. They already had so many lovely things about the place. Rows of unusual crockery and glassware and all the houseplants you could dream of, we especially loved the purple Oxalis on the island. The little triangular leaves are so pretty. The owners of this home have a big family and a dog and this kitchen is no doubt the place everybody congregates after a long day at school and work. The doors open out onto a lovely little garden and you’ve got Richmond Park and Kew Gardens only a stroll away, what an amazing place to grow up.
A Lacanche range cooker with warm brass details and a patterned rug made the cooker run feel cosy and easy to be in.They chose our Sebastian Cox cupboards in the classic combination, a little bit of ‘Inky Blue Black’ and a little bit of ‘Natural’. A mix of Lagoon Silestone and our bespoke hand-aged copper for the worktops and a solid wooden floor. This was the first time we were able to photograph our Classic shelf brackets in the ‘Oxidised Brass’ finish. They look great, deeper in colour and a bit more industrial than our warmer aged brass finish. If you’re after a sturdy, good-looking bracket for your wooden or marble shelves – these are the ones for you!
We love an understated lighting choice – these pretty glass pendants are by Rowen & Wren.We were so lucky to have some sunshine on the day of the shoot, it makes these modestly rustic cupboards even lovelier and if you look closely, you can really see all the little bumps and grooves and texture of the band-sawn pieces of timber. We’re yet to find a kitchen range quite as individual as our award-winning Sebastian Cox cupboards, they incorporate both exquisite craftsmanship and a desire to recognise lesser-used woods. Similar to our Shaker kitchen, this is a modular range so your cupboards will come fully assembled and hand-finished with one of our special tints. We’ll design a beautiful kitchen for you, make it to order here in England and can then deliver the cupboards to your door ready for your builder to install, or our team of deVOL fitters can do everything.
You can just see a glimpse of the very smart aged copper splashback, what a cool alternative to metro tiles or glass. We would like to say a big thank you to this lovely family for welcoming us into their beautiful home in Kew and for allowing us to take a few photos of their new deVOL Kitchen and share them with you here on our blog. It’s the kindness of our customers that enables us to share all of this inspiration with people all over the world and that’s something we are so grateful for. We’re always looking for deVOL Kitchens to come and take photos of, so if you’re the proud owner of some of our furniture and would be up for us taking over your kitchen for a few hours, we’d be so thrilled to hear from you.
