Liberty Prints and Pancakes

My last post!
Ten months ago I was lucky enough to join the deVOL and Floors of Stone team as a placement student, and have had the opportunity to blog about all sorts of goings-on at Cotes Mill since then. I’ve met some lovely, talented and truly great people who love what they do and are passionate about all things design.
Over the recent months, I’ve chosen to write about and share a selection of our latest accessories, as one of my jobs here has been to help our Creative Director, Helen, with finding beautiful new gifts to sell amongst our kitchen showrooms.
Some favourites of mine this month are these rather lovely Liberty print notebooks, along with a great new recipe book that’s been added to our book table.
The ‘Liberty Print’ dates back to 1875, when Arthur Liberty decided to open up his own shop in Regent Street, London, after working in a women’s fashion house. His unique designs soon caught the attention of of Oscar Wilde and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and became somewhat of a tourist attraction for people visiting the city.
Ever since then, Liberty has been creating its iconic fabrics and prints for their quirky British department store on Great Marlborough Street – which still remains to be my favourite shop in the capital. In October, the Fashion and Textile Museum will be holding an exhibition called ‘Liberty in Fashion,’ showcasing garments and costumes made by Liberty over the last 140 years.
Our recipe books that are dotted around the showrooms cover all sorts of exotic cuisines, but as an all-time brunch worshipper, this one title instantly appealed to me, and ‘Breakfast – Morning, Noon and Night’ is right up there on my wishlist for cookbooks we have here for sale. Recipes include Fried Chocolate Bread (of course), Buttermilk Blueberry Hotcakes, and Chunky Cinnamon Toast with Blackberry Compote. Writer and food stylist Fern Green, who created the book, also cleverly included a whole chapter devoted to hangover food. What a saviour!
