deVOL directory: The Khoollect Kitchen

This is a quirky, happy kitchen with bags of personality, it’s extremely functional and easy to work in and the coolest part – it belongs to the very lovely Rachel Khoo. What an honour it is for Rachel to choose a deVOL Kitchen for her new Khoollect HQ in North West London. A place for Rachel to live and work, a place to create beautiful content, videos and imagery for Khoollect, a place to chill out and dine and of course cook.
This new kitchen has been so very popular on our social media pages and one that we get asked questions on each and every day. So, I’ve put together a little deVOL directory all about this space to answer lots of the questions you have.
The cupboards are from our Real Shaker Kitchen range and here’s a little info on the rest…
1. The Paint Colours & Flooring
The beautiful pea green colour on the cupboards was picked by Rachel and custom made for her, it’s fresh and very on-trend and you can’t help but smile a little every time you see it. The wall colour is ‘Shirting’ by Little Greene and Rachel chose a dark floor to beautifully contrast the walls and cupboards. They are the Honed Black Slate tiles from Topps Tiles and continue all the way out of the kitchen and into the garden, bringing the outside in in such a clever way.

2. The Worktops
The worktops are made from reclaimed Iroko, Rachel sourced them from Retrouvious and sanded back and oiled they look really smart and a little less rustic than usual. Wooden worktops add a special kind of warmth and charm to a space that you just don’t get with stone. I know lots of people do worry about their durability though, as with any natural material you do have to be mindful that they will change over time and might need just a little more looking after, but if you keep the wood really well oiled the worktops will settle in and keep getting lovelier with use.
3. The Sink & Taps
The combination of our deVOL Aged Brass Mayan taps and Single Fluted Ceramic Sink might be a new favourite of mine. Both of these products are the result of collaborations with two of our favourite British companies. We created the beautiful taps with Perrin & Rowe and the traditional sink with Shaws of Darwen, both are available exclusively through deVOL and we are so happy to be able to offer these to our customers with or without a deVOL Kitchen.

4. The Hardware, Tiles & Accessories
The beautiful deVOL Aged Verdigris Brass Classic Handles were made here at Cotes Mill by our Jeweller, Steph. Each cup handle is unique and with little hints of green in their ever-changing patina they match perfectly with the green tiles by Milagros, a small Mexican tile shop on Columbia Road, East London – well worth a visit! Rachel sourced the vintage red Anglepoise lamp from Etsy and four of our simple Shaker shelves, two of which have handy brass hanging rails, looked charming stacked with Rachel’s most used kitchen bits and collections of retro kitchenalia.

5. The Appliances
The appliances and how and where they were positioned in the room was really important to Rachel, she needed everything to be close to hand and forward-facing, this enables her to cook and present with a film crew in front of her and ensures the crew can get the whole kitchen and Rachel in shot at all times. A tall appliance cupboard houses an integrated double Smeg oven, allowing it to sit at eye level and be within easy reach and a Smeg gas hob in stainless steel sits centrally on the island. This design also features an integrated fridge, dishwasher and washing machine, all hidden behind simple Shaker doors to keep the space feeling light and clean.

We have fallen in love with this happy little kitchen, it just works as a whole, everything has a place, there is lots of light and space and what’s best, it really is a very achievable and down to earth look. Rachel and the Khoollect team have already put the kitchen to very good use with cooking tutorials, photoshoots and behind the scenes peeks at their upcoming projects and we can’t wait to see what they get up to in here next.
