Creative Ways to use Café Curtain Rails
21st March 2025
Café curtains are our favourite way to bring a touch of Parisian romance to a room, pop them up and you immediately have a very cool, chic space. But these pretty rails don’t need to be confined to your kitchen windows… Keep reading to see all the ways we like to use these handy things.

As a room divider
When fixed to a glazed partition, café curtain rails provide a sense of separation and a natural break in the room. We like to use floaty muslin and linen rather than heavy fabrics. These materials don’t block out the light entirely, just give a little privacy and seclusion whilst still allowing the natural light to filter through so neither space feels dark and gloomy.

To hang cupboard skirts
Another lovely way to use café curtain rails is on kitchen cupboards. Not only are cupboard skirts uber functional and give a really authentic country look, but they’re also very economical in comparison to hardwood doors. Place them below a sink cabinet to hide away pipes, use them to cover appliances in your laundry room, or simply attach them to some open cupboards and you don’t have to worry about perfectly organised, aesthetic shelves.

In the bathroom
Whilst we are a kitchen company first and foremost, we do enjoy a foray into bathroom design, and a little café curtain rail is much more tasteful (and reasonably priced) than frosted glass, don’t you think? Placed halfway up your window, this drape keeps you out of sight from the neighbours but can be pushed aside when not in use.

At the top of your windows
The traditional way to hang café curtains is halfway up your windows, but they don’t need to be restricted to this position. It seems rather obvious when you think about it, but fixing the rail at the top of your window, as you might with standard curtains, actually makes for a very sweet and quirky look. Our Creative Director, Helen, did just this, choosing some short pieces of fabric which added the perfect touch of softness and femininity but still allowed her to enjoy the view as she did the washing up!
