Come and see our brand new kitchen at Clerkenwell Design Week 2018…
17th May 2018
It’s less than a week to go until Clerkenwell Design Week kicks off again and this year we have something very special planned… we will be unveiling a brand new kitchen range!! The Haberdasher’s Kitchen is a redesign and fresh take on our ‘Air Kitchen’, a cool and very different look for deVOL that we can’t wait to reveal as part of the British Collection at next week’s show, 22nd – 24th May.

We loved our original Air Kitchen, a modern retro design which utilised quality modern materials and construction methods. It was clean and simple and something really quite different from our more traditional ranges. It was such a big hit and caused quite a stir in the design world when we launched the range at 100% Design back in 2012, but times change and so do our tastes, and so 7 years later, the brilliant deVOL Design Team have taken on the challenge of creating a whole new collection that we will be able to offer all of our customers.

It was clear straight away that we wanted to retain the mid-century style and unique design features like the curved oak frames and metal end panels but this time our inspiration came from old gentlemen’s haberdasheries. Instead of coloured solid surface doors and brushed aluminium end panels we have opted for a beautifully natural stained oak finish and aged copper ends. A mixture of narrow framed glazed doors and drawers with dark painted interiors and tambour-style solid doors make up the main run of the kitchen, whilst the island features glazed drawers, open curved ends and beautiful oak turned legs.

The kitchen also showcases our brand new aged brass pivot hinges, designed and made in-house at our Cotes Mill studios. Reminiscent of those seen on traditional steel-framed windows and doors pioneered by Victorian British manufacturers like Crittall, these new hinges allow the narrow doors to sit in front of the cupboard fascia, the door is pushed outward meaning you can open it more than 180 degrees until it meets its neighbouring cupboard.

We knew we had to include one of our fabulous marble sinks too – this one is brand new to the collection, the very first with a fluted front! Machined from a single block of Carrara marble, these timeless sinks have been featured everywhere from Elle Deco to Living etc. to Remodelista but nothing is quite as good as seeing one of these beauties in real life and being able to feel their smooth honed finish and admire the quality craftsmanship. Oh and wait until you see the aged copper worktop – we can’t get enough of these shimmering aged surfaces with their incredible natural patina. What a cool mix with the hints of aged copper that curve around the island ends!

But what’s a beautiful new kitchen without accessories? It’s something that our team has been working very hard on for the last couple of years and we’re so proud of our ever-growing range of handmade artisan products. At this year’s show, we will be exhibiting our latest designs: Helen’s Stool, an understated classic made from British timbers, and deVOL’s new collection of white porcelain pendant lights that have been made in our Cotes Mill ceramics studio by the lovely Kat, who will be on the stand at various points during the week to answer all of your questions!
